Show Notes: Danish: "After receiving the tickets, I entered the Sportarena with my press colleagues, where I had not been that long ago. There was little time until the start, so we quickly ran to the merch stand. I was happy to notice that they were selling a 10" record. Plus, it was only 2000 HUF. The cover, however, was unfamiliar. I asked about it, and as it turned out, it was a "book". I mean, a photo album of about 20 pages without text. To that they said: nooooo! There were a couple of good-looking T-shirts for 5000 (everyone especially liked the pink one), as well as badges and stickers for 1000 (!) HUF. We decided not to buy anything. At the first sounds of Alvin, we headed downstairs, said goodbye to our unfortunate seatmates, and then looked for our forum friends around the mixer, but almost no one showed up at the agreed-upon location. Luckily, I ran into Csabeeka, with whom concerts are always in a good mood.
Alvin and the Squirrels really showed up. During the half-hour program, they selected a few of their hits, which included some real oldies (the title track, Kurva life), and of course new ones (I don't know the title of these), and also a cover of the superstar albums was played. I felt a bit like they were being treated with disrespect for playing on such a big stage. During the commentaries, they sometimes interrupted each other. They even made the audience sing a little. There was just one glitch in the program, the microphone in front of the guitar amplifier fell off, and from then on the second guitarist could not be heard. When this was corrected, the guitar became too loud... Anyway, apart from that, they really performed well, and now they can write in their biography that they played before Green Day.
After Alvin's, there was a longer break, during which the stage was rearranged. Punk songs were playing from the tape recorder, a few of which were recognizable, e.g. Clash - I Faught the Law. Csabee and I pushed forward, here we entertained the people with all kinds of crap. The majority of the audience was between 14-16 years old, boys and girls mixed. So it's almost I was the oldest. It didn't really bother me at all.
Then a pink rabbit came on stage and drank 2 bottles of beer. I didn't really understand what that meant. Then the stage went dark, the Ramones' Blitzkrieg's Bop started, then Green Day came on and they started American Idiot. In one sentence, I got exactly what I expected at the concert. Mozart's previous reviewand based on forum comments and previous concert experiences, you could almost know exactly when what would happen. Despite this, the concert was a great experience for me. I won't write the tracklist now, because it probably wouldn't work (although I knew every song, of course), and the regular fans will surely collect it in the Green Day topic . In any case, it didn't deviate much from what was predicted. How was Green Day different from Avril Lavigne? In a word: professionalism. This characterized the entire concert. They may have been playing the same songs every night for X months, I believe they enjoyed it. They were clearly fully engaged. Of course, they didn't skimp on money, they entertained the crowd with different show elements. It's natural that the lights and sound were very professional, but in addition to these we also got various flame plumes, firecrackers, a flashing Green Day sign, a giant display with different animations, and costumes on the band members. The best part for me was the huge confetti shower in the last third of the concert. How can the poor cleaning lady, who vacuums up tons of the little green, white and red mess with heart-shaped hand grenades, be so upset now? :) Everyone could collect some for themselves, people in the front rows threw the collected confetti at each other. Billie Joe's behavior was completely natural, he ran up and down, sometimes came forward to brag, he made the audience sing a lot. Maybe this was the only negative thing about the concert. They've been doing this for years, I don't know why. They go "ee Then Billie introduced the band, along with a second guitarist, trumpeter (Hungarian origin), saxophonist, bassist, and drummer. He introduced himself as George W. Bush, then remarked that he was an asshole. Of course, there was Fuck Bush. It was nice that he learned to say thank you and maybe even say hi at the beginning of the concert. We were a fucking great audience, of course, but instead of the usual fake talk, we heard that this was the band's best tour in their 16-year history. (So not the best stop.) I might even believe that. In addition to the confetti pieces, you could also collect drumsticks, Tre threw one after every beat, but mostly not into the audience. This was also a kind of show element. At the end of the concert, he threw about forty of them, but I think they all landed in the ditch.
We also saw the usual interactive elements, such as a little boy spraying water guns at the crowd and the audience playing a cover of Operation Ivy. Surprisingly, almost no one in the audience knew Knowledge, at least around me. Everyone just stared blankly. So, as usual, the process of recruiting a drummer, bassist, and guitarist from the audience began. Unfortunately, the first bassist candidate couldn't play bass, and he wasn't really willing to give up his instrument. Fuck. The kid on the guitar, on the other hand, had been preparing for the event for years, so he had no problem playing the song, he even sang the lyrics. He probably knew in advance that he would get the guitar. Knowledge is not a complicated song, they really suppressed it. Dear Green Day fans, listen to Operation Ivy, they played even better music than Green Day!
It was usually typical that most of the audience didn't know the lyrics, and those that did, were new ones. I'm not claiming to know them all, but I sang almost the entire concert, gibberish if I had to. There wasn't much movement, it was just slouching in the front rows, mostly jumping up and down in the back, sometimes pushing and shoving for the faster songs. Not many people produced a decent pogo. Anyway, I'm old for this, after a few minutes I was completely out of breath. Standout songs for me: She - I screamed at the top of my lungs, it was one of my favorites from Dookie. Brain Stew + Jaded, and this one from Insomniac. They reminded me of the good old days. There were two more songs that I was sure I would hear at the end of the concert, they belonged to that very narrow category when I stand with my arms outstretched to the sky, my back getting goosebumps and just looking in front of me, or singing softly. This has only happened to me at NOFX and Hátsó nytszép concerts. Boulevard of Broken Dreams and finally Time of Your Life with a guitar, in the dark, calmly. This is what is usually written as "crying". It was perfect. Then it was over. The audience, which had been screaming the whole time, was almost completely silent until Sham 69's If The Kids Are United hit with a chorus began to play softly, and we started to share.
Are Green Day punk? I'm sorry. They mean a lot to me, and I'm very happy to see them again. They achieved everything they could, I'm sure they're not touring for the money, because they have enough money to live on for the rest of their lives. I've written many times that if only 1% of the young people who attended start listening to other punk bands and don't get stuck on Viva TV, then it's worth it. The rest of them had a nice evening and that's it.
I stepped out into the pouring rain in a torn T-shirt, where terrified parents were waiting for their children, clutching their cell phones. I turned on the radio in the car and Boulevard of Broken Dreams was playing..."
