Show Notes: Shaun Cowan: "The first time Green Day came to Edmonton they played 2 shows; first show was Sunday matinee/all ages at the Bronx and an acquaintance booked this show for a couple days later. This person didn't have the best reputation, so I helped him with shows to ensure that bands got paid and that flyers were put up. When the band arrived they weren't happy about the show being 18+ and that the bar was a strip club on the days we didn't have shows. They were cool to me about the situation and an all ages show was quickly put together at the Ritz Diner, just down the road. The roadie for GD on this tour was Aaron Cometbus, and I was quite excited to meet him and buy a zine. ...The Ritz show was so tiny, not a lot of people."

Show Notes: Shreiking Violets: "This and all later shows: with Tina Lewnes on drums. Green Day (who I'd never heard of at the time) was supposed to play too, but canceled at the last minute; we heard it was because they'd been offered more money to play elsewhere."

Rachel Rinaldo: "...I heard from friends in NYC that you Green Day folks cancelled your show at ABC NO RIO (one of the best places for shows in the entire world) because you said it was a shit place... "

Brian MacDonald: "Green Day had a promoter who booked shows without the band's permission. ... This could have very well been the same situation."

Neil Robinson: "Green Day was one that I booked and then they didn't show up. They had approached us, and I guess their booking agent had booked three shows on the same day and picked which would be the most popular and didn't tell us. I remember us getting together and I said 'that band's never gonna play in this state again.' [laughs]"

the Observer: "So, when I lived in Albuquerque, it would've been 1992 when this happened. Dookie hadn't come out yet. They came to town and played a show at a little punk venue, and fire marshal showed up and shut it down before they could play. So, one of my friends approaches me and says, 'By any chance do you have any of that weed left?' I was like, 'Yeah, I do.' 'Well, Billie is looking for some.' ... So, myself and Billie, and friend Lisa drive back to my house and she just dropped us off for a second or something. She stayed in the car. I remember she didn't come in. She thought it was going to be a quick run-in, get a little weed and head back out. So we're sitting there and he decides to light up a little bit, and, you know, take a toke. We start talking about punk rock. Berkeley, you know, 'cause Subvert had played down there not that long ago. When I just met them. And when I said 'Subvert', he goes, 'What? Subvert? No way! That was the first show I've ever saw.' The first show Billie Joe said he ever saw was Subvert / Neurosis / Christ On Parade and I think it was Half Off. I was like, 'Wow, man. That's cool.' I mean, that was a really memorable show at the Gilman Street."

Show Notes: Oak Leaf: "Despite the disappointment of the crowd in the Coop patio Wednesday, Doctor Obvious replaced scheduled band. Green Day. With dual drums, a strong bass line and an almost non-existant guitar track, Doctor Obvious was a high energy, spirited band, who drew a small following. The fourth song of the set had an edge unseen in any of the previous songs, implementing the use of a synthesizer and a suddenly audible guitar."

Martin Lucas: "I don't remember that as a fire marshall issue for Green Day, I thought it was the cops 'cause some kid was outside on acid or something? But that was so freaking long ago."

Judd Taylor: "Whoa, this was my first show ever, only it didn't end up happening. I sat in my mom's car with her biker boyfriend waiting for it to start and then some angry punker told us it was cancelled."

Show Notes: Metalhit: "Ventura had a venue which was great had a half pipe inside but eventually the beach nazis had to kill it, there was a wild shooting at a Green Day gig of all things."

Ventura County Reporter: "There were lots of shows at the Mayfair. The shows were well-attended, but times were different. There were lots of gangs/skinheads making some shows kind of scary. All the bands that were going to be huge in a few more years played at the Mayfair: NOFX, Pennywise, The Offspring all had shows there. There was the infamous Green Day riot when a gang got kicked out of the show, came back, busted through the back door and started hitting people with pipes, ending the show before Green Day played."

The Sound Alarm: "Another one of our most memorable back stage moment was when we supported Green Day on Christmas Eve and the bill was stacked with names like Strung Out, Jughead's Revenge & yours truly [Citizen Down]. Throughout the night fights were breaking out. We could hear them from backstage, and you can just smell the tension in the air. We finally hit the stage and by the 3rd song a brawl broke out and we stopped so they could gather themselves. So we start playing again and the crowd starts getting into our music, then I look to my left and only see guys with pipes and crowbars! So I turn for one second to signal the band and to my surprise when I looked back they were beating people with these pipes! Shortly after that, we heard gunshots outside and then sirens. Needless to say, the show was over. Green Day and Jughead's Revenge were bummed they didn't get to play, thanks to 'The Rumble on Christmas Eve.'"
